The Cats2D Suit is Dismissed

In September 2018, Andrew Yeckel filed a lawsuit for copyright infringement against his former employer, the University of Minnesota, as well as the research lab director, Jeffrey Derby. (The details of the complaint are found in this prior blog post).

However, on December 19th, Yeckel notified the District Court of Minnesota that he was voluntarily dismissing his lawsuit with prejudice, meaning the lawsuit is permanently dismissed. Neither Derby nor the University had responded to the complaint with an answer or motion for summary judgment. However, a settlement agreement was entered into by both parties, stipulating Yeckel is the complete owner of Cats2D and that the University and Derby retain no ownership and must destroy all of their copies and derivative works of the software.
